Noncitizen Studio: Live Stream #3, Meet the host!

Noncitizen Studio: Live Stream #4, Sandi Shadood
Directly from the exhibition, Noncitizen Studio, at Mångkulturellt centrum in Fittja with artist Sandi Shadood and the host Sabbe Mezher. Being a queer artist from Iraq, Sandi Shadood’s practice primarily engages with questions of identity. She uses abstraction to translate her thoughts, which are connected to her ancestral history. The work Mesopotamia departs from Sumerian cuneiform, the ancient Sumer language. It is one of the world’s oldest attested languages, dating back to at least 3000 BC, spoken in what was once known as Mesopotamia in modern-day Iraq. Sumerian cuneiform developed from the pictographs and other symbols used to represent trade goods and livestock on clay tablets. This painting contains a paragraph that is one of the rules in Sumer, and it means: “All human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights.”

Noncitizen Studio: Live Stream #7, Ahmad Alattar in concert.
In this listening session, live-streaming from the finale of the exhibition “Noncitizen Studio” at MKC, Ahmad Alattar will play a reconstruction of the two-part sound piece “All Over” and “The Place.” In his practice, he uses harsh soundscapes contrasted with excerpts from Arab pop songs, creating a sense of both discomfort and familiarity. The extracts of the pop songs are used repetitively. They can be interpreted as a gateway to escapism or as a mimic of populist, fascist mantras. Join us online or in person at MKC. Until Friday, we will stream interviews with our host Sabbe and the exhibitors. The interviews are directly from the exhibition at MKC and will be streamed every evening at 6 PM. Ahmad Alattar All Over, 2022 1:46:18 Sound, speakers The Place, 2022 06:46 min Sound, headphones The host Sabbe Mezher in conversation with Ahmad Alattar on his two-part sound piece "All Over" and "The Place." All Over is installed in the middle of the room by a speaker, and behind the curved wall, The Place can be listened to through headphones. In his work, Alattar explores the topics of migration, control, fear, and violence. He uses harsh soundscapes contrasted with excerpts from Arab pop songs, creating a sense of both discomfort and familiarity. The extracts of the pop songs are used repetitively. They can be interpreted as a gateway to escapism or as a mimic of populist, fascist mantras.

Noncitizen Studio: Live Stream #5, Darun
Darun Utan titel/ untitled (2022) Akryl och gips på duk/Acrylic and plaster on canvas. Darun är 24 år och är självlärd konstnär, som har målat i flera år. Han har från början målat abstrakt men med vissa återkommande ”figurer” i sin konst. I hans målningar finns en kännbar dynamik och kraft. Darun är mycket experimentell och utmanar både betraktaren och sig själv i sin konst. Han har haft flera utställningar, bl.a på Café Dynamo, Södermalm 2021 och Stadsmissionens ”Konst utan gränser” 2022. Darun is 24 years old and is a self-taught artist who has been painting for several years. From the beginning, he has painted abstractly with specific recurring "figures" in his art. In his paintings, there is a palpable dynamism and power. Darun is very experimental and challenges the viewer and himself in his art. He has had several exhibitions, including at Café Dynamo, Södermalm in 2021, and the City Mission's "Art without borders" in 2022.
